I have a list created in Segments in List section of Directory.
I have no rules for merging contacts.
I already have a record in list as below (for example):
I now would like to add another record as below (Only ExternalDataReference is new):
But it updates the 1st record and shows only 1 record as below updating the ExternalDataReference:
I have other lists exactly same as this with also no rules set and it add them as 2 records.
Please suggest what am I doing wrong.

I’ll reply with the first steps to check. When you set up the import, you are faced with the choice of assigning a field in your file as “External Data Reference” I’ll call it EDR from now on.
Make sure you have selected the right field for this.
Next, before you upload, click “Edit Identity Resolution Rules”
This is where you get to define how your unique situation is handled. We created a rule, for instance, to only merge those with an identical EDR AND and identical “Plan Type.” (that is one of our fields, doesn’t matter to you what it is, think to yourself about what you do and don’t want to combine and check.” If the EDR
This way, if a contact comes in with the same EDR, but their “Plan Type” is different, it doesn’t add a new contact, it merges them.
